- Who Are You ?
Vertical Student Ministries

- Where Are You
From ? Gadsden, Alabama
- What is your
main goals as a youth group or mission statement ?
Vertical exists to
Connect lost students to God, to Develop them into disciples of
Jesus Christ and to ignite them in ministry and purpose.
- What is the
most exciting thing that happened to/with your youth group in 2006 ?
In the
summer of 2006, we totally changed the structure and approach of our
student ministry. We decided that we wanted to be a youth ministry
rather than a youth group. In the fall we began having “open house
nights” which targeted our immediate community teens. Sixty-seven
first time guests have visited since last September and that number
continues to grow weekly. Many of these guests have become regular
attendees.

5.
What is the funniest thing the youth group has done in the past 6
months ? Our Valentines Old Fogey shindig. (you can see the
pictures at Verticalyouth.net) Also, visiting Metropolis Illinois
and harassing the giant Superman statue that is located in their
town square. Playing x-box and checkers.
- 6. What impact
does your youth have in local church ? I would say that our
students have a huge impact in our local assembly. Our young people
make up the majority of praise singers, musicians, media techs,
minister’s aid and other areas of service here at Church On The
Rock. They also lead by example during the worship service.
- 7. What do you
want to see happen in 2007 for Vertical Youth Ministries ? For
our students to continue teaching Bible studies and reaching their
friends. For all our students to realize that they do not have to
wait until adulthood to be used by God; that they can play a key
role right now. For our student ministry to continue being a
ministry and not just a group. And of course, I would like to see
more people receive the Holy Ghost and continual growth. Also an
indoor go-cart track (please Lord).
- How involved is
your youth in outreach in your community ? I would say they are
highly involved. Considering the
fact that the majority of our community outreach team is comprised
of our students. Also, on Friday nights, we usually host a large
number of community youth that attend our services and activities.
Our students are always good about making each youth from the
community area feel welcome and involved.
-
How
important is it to be at each and every youth service ? When we
are missing someone, it’s like having a Ferrari with only 3 wheels.
Whether they realize it or not, each student plays a huge role in
our youth ministry. Whether it’s helping in the service or just
befriending new comers, they are greatly needed and missed when they
are not present.
-
What
are your youth groups over quoted words, sayings, phrases or such?
“You monger.” “I feel the Shondo!” “Hello
Brooooother.” “Always!” while angrily shaking their fist
in the air.
